People felt like the oil was
going to last forever. Also referred to as the gusher age, oil was literally
exploding from the ground in Texas at the time. People felt that this abundance
of oil would never run dry, and that Texas would be prosperous from it forever.
They were happy, and nothing could stop that.
2.
What happened when the Texas reserve ran out?
The town where the oil was
mainly found and captivated was deserted. When the oil ran out there was no
more need for the land, and it was cost more money to clean up the area. There
would be no profit for this, so what was the point in doing it? It would be more expensive to prepare the surroundings for new technology than the amount of money that could be produced. This is why it has been left such a mess.
3.
How has this mentality carried to the present and what problems has it caused?
Unfortunately, nobody learned from the result of the oil reserve running out. The
same cycle continued on multiple more times as oil was struck. People felt more
prosperous than ever and thought that their magnificent time would never end. And
now, we are facing an even worse problem. So many people are blinded by the
popularity and need for oil that they are not noticing that we are rapidly using our last
oil reserve. Some people think that we will strike more oil, even though it has
been proven that we will not. It's like a drug addiction. The oil is our fix, and when we run out, we
go searching for the next one we can find.
